However, WPA was a stopgap measure. At the time, the Wi-Fi Alliance was working on its 802.11i standard. Released in 2004, it is commonly known as WPA2.
WPA2 uses AES for encryption. It is stronger than the RC4 encryption scheme shared by WEP and WPA. But AES requires modern hardware.
WPA2 should be your first choice. That includes AES. I have general instructions for a complete WPA2 setup on my site.
If your computers' networking components (Wi-Fi cards or USB adapters) don't offer WPA2 options, switch the setup to WPA. On your access point, that means TKIP. If the adapters on your computers allow only WEP, look for updates online.
Both WPA and WPA2 offer good security. WPA is theoretically breakable, but can be secure on a practical level. With a strong password of 21 characters or more, a WPA network can withstand an attack for years. Unfortunately, most people don't use strong passwords.
In either WPA or WPA2, your password is the weakest link. Make it as strong as you reasonably can.

Hard Drive Healthy?

Hard drives have a lifespan of three to five years. But I've seen some die after two years. I have a few that are still chugging along after 5 years. There's really no good way to judge how long one will last.
There may be signs, though. If you hear a popping or a cat-like sound, your drive may be failing. Problems starting Windows may also be caused by a failing drive. I had a drive that would disappear and then reappear in Windows Explorer. A few days after this started, it died.
Programs are available to monitor the health of hard drives. They use the drive's self-monitoring tools. HDD Health and HD Tune are two such utilities. They're free.
Advance notice is always helpful. But I wouldn't count on it. Back up your data. Remember the other kind of crash–when your laptop crashes to the floor. Those crashes come without warning. So, there's no substitute for backing up.

I'm dedicating this post to my probation officer...I had such a fucked up 5.5 hours at the Indy City Building, including a piss drop and the 3.5 hour identification processing, I ended up only getting 2 hours of sleep. Then I got sick at work and came home after 2 hours...so here's a big fuck you to the Indy Probation Dept.!

The show fuckin' rocked! We went and had a classy dinner at the Music Mill Restaurant with a couple 24oz. Blue Moons each, then we went to the venue and got the last table and since we're a friendly couple we invited Eric and his wife and another couple to sit with us. Sitting only lasted until Kramus finished their set, when Saliva came on we were standing right up front! It was Thanksgiving weekend and the Colts had a home game at 8 so there were only about 60 people there...but Saliva pulled out the stops, playing almost every song I really dig.
Mad props boys for a killer set!

It's Been Sooooo Long!!!
Hey friends and others who may have read my blog in the past! It's been so damn long since I've had internet access...I've about forgotten about my beloved blog! Not really...I've just been on an internet hiatus...heheh...that's a lie too...I've just been kinda broke. I had to get another car and now I've got payments for that unfortunately.
I've been working at HP as a tech and I really like it, Clinella has a job at St. Vincent's Hospital, which is only about 2 or 3 blocks from our apt. and she loves her job in environmental services. We both love living in Indy, it is a very cool place to be indeed!
I'm here at St. Vincent's taking advantage of the free internet to try and get caught up on my email and make this much overdue blog entry. An asshole at work got our internet access taken away by staying online for 10 hours...so we all have to suffer. I hope to be getting Comcast high-speed in the very near future, until then I'll be coming here for my net fix.

Still can't use BlogThis!
Well...I emailed Blogger support about a week ago and still haven't got my BlogThis issue fixed! I was hoping that they would be a little more helpful than just sending me a canned message saying that they recieved my email...but no such luck! This is really starting to bum me out! I guess they think I'm a "splogger" or something, but I just post cool stuff that I want my friends to see...I want this fixed ASAP!!! I don't want to move my blog somewhere else...I love Blogger and have been here for a long time...PLZ fix this for me guys!!!

WTF is wrong with BlogThis!???
I just got my formatting issue fixed by restoring my template, but for some reason, BlogThis! has quit working and will not work for me in FireFox or IE! It's really pissing me off (not to mention cramping my style) that I have to come back to my dashboard to enter posts!

have you ever been an addict. and im not talking
about the hey-i-like-to-do-this-alot type of addict.
im talking about the
if-i-dont-get-it-right-now-im-going-to-fucking-blow-someones-head-off
type of addict. im an addict. ive never blown anyone
to get it. i dont think i would. but i havent been
given the opportunity to either. the reason i say 'i
dont think i would' is because i like to pretend that
i still have something thats mine. dignity, pride,
standards. but i know i would easily toss those away
just to get it. i know because i have. so all i
really have is it. for one hour. for two hours. for
fifteen minutes or however long it last. however long
i can afford it to last. ill be high for fifteen
minutes if thats all i can get.
im an addict. i dont get high just to get high. i
get high just to get my mind off getting high for a
few hours. after a fix im good for eight hours.
maybe. then the last of my previous highs memory
cells dry up and i want. need. how can i get
my next fix. when. how soon. can i afford it.
scratch that. how soon.
i timed it once. seventy seven dollars got me high
for just shy of a hundred minutes. but i got my fix. and
yet i was broke. funny how they call it a fix. each
new fix is like a hollowtip exploding out my backside.
internal bleeding. external bleeding. but i dont
feel it. until i come down.
i should get help. i know. i should get help finding
it and paying for it because the more im high the more i
live. do i want to stop. yes. i want to stop
searching for my fix. i want to stop the hours
inbetween each fix thinking about the next fix each
fix whispering to me that it will be better than the
last fix. i want to stop. and i will. i will when
im rolling around in fields of my drug. when i wont
need a fix because its everywhere and i dont have to
get high because i already am and i will be forever
because everywhere i look is my drug and its holding
me and telling me that im sexy and i will never come
down because i live in a castle in the sky.
so now you know what addicts dream of.
i am an addict. and i love it. it has its positives
and negatives. and im positive im negative. or so im
told. by myself. my brain can hold two opposing
thoughts. one, that this fix is just what i needed.
and two, that i need a fix.
and now its time.
i can hear my drug calling. i pick up the phone.
i say hello.
she says i love you.
my fix.
and im good for another eight hours.

Which means they never benefit from that added exposure, and so remain hidden secrets that you'll only find if you dig deep. It's a vicious circle.

I've been involved in transcribing texts and in converting documents into different formats for more than twenty years. These days it's mostly conversion into HTML or XML. I've seen a lot of wasted effort, and also learnt a lot of lessons that are useful to share.
It might seem odd that I'd take the time to write about this, but as XML Activity Lead at W3C I'm concerned about what you might think of as the grass roots and origins as XML every bit as much as XML in the big companies. So what follows are some notes on converting textual documents into XML and HTML."
